Beginner’s Golf Clinic with Linda Jervis
We’re thrilled and honoured to be welcoming LPGA pro Linda Jervis to Ladies Golf Day. Linda will be hosting a Beginner’s Golf Clinic (included with your LGD ticket!), a chance for beginners of the sport to gain basic skills and confidence. Thank you, Linda! By age 15, Linda was one of Canada’s top-ranked amateurs. Her experience in playing LPGA Tour events enables her to coach at all levels and offer students solid advice on every aspect of the game. Linda has been empowering others to learn and play golf for over two decades. Linda is a decorated professional with several wins and top 10 finishes under her belt, and we’re so excited to have her at the event! Also, you’ll have a chance to bid on Linda’s Group Lesson for 4 in our Silent Auction! Visit Linda’s website here:
What we know today as “Ladies Golf Day at Peace Portal Par 3” grew from a conversation between Carolyn Haley and a couple of friends in the spring of 2022.
When she found herself employed at the family’s newly acquired golf course, Carolyn decided to learn to golf. But, how? Lessons, she thought, that would work. But what teacher? And would she need to have clubs to start? If so, what kind should she buy? Would she feel embarrassed about not knowing?
Carolyn received oodles of suggestions from family and friends – especially those experienced golfers who were willing to take her out and teach her. But she didn’t feel right and wanted to first learn at least the basics before doing that.
She thought “if it’s this hard for me when I am so close to the business, how hard is it for other girls and women to find out about golf and to learn whether it’s a sport they’d like to take up or not?”
And so, from the enthusiastic discussions of Carolyn and her friends grew a committee and an event. The event, Ladies Golf Day at Peace Portal Par 3, is designed to offer females a chance to learn about the game in a fun, safe environment, and to develop skills and knowledge about the game.
One principal issue that Carolyn felt was important was to utilize the profile of the event to raise funds for local charities. The committee decided on Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, for its youth and maternity programs, and Avalon Women’s Centre White Rock which helps women seeking freedom from addiction. Both charities are thrilled to be part of Ladies Golf Day at Peace Portal Par 3.
